Among some of the best books that I have read is ‘Banker to the Poor‘ (buy from Flipkart or Amazon ) by Muhammad Yunus. It is the story of how he created Grameen Bank with the vision of easy credit availability to those who need it the most. It is a fascinating read, and it is impossible not to take something away from it. He saw a vision, and against all odds, ran Grameen as a business and gave micro-credit to the world. He changed the way the world looked at banking. Apart from the economics, he and Grameen Bank has had a huge social impact in Bangladesh, with millions of households being empowered to live a life they love. For his efforts, Muhammad Yunus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.
There are many traditional human values which have been exemplified in this book, and by Grameen Bank and Muhammad Yunus. These are the values which are common to most successful people, most winners alike, be it in the field of sports, business, politics, or social change. I am listing below the five basic values which the story of Grameen and Mr Yunus very clearly demonstrate -
1. Vision

I recently read this article about high crime rates in Delhi against women. The author has taken an interesting viewpoint by proposing that bad parenting of the male child is responsible for rapes. “Parents bring up their sons as though they are reincarnation of the God Emperor”, she says..
I am pasting the article below. I somewhat agree with what she has to say. Our social fabric and family and social values are woven in such a way that the female is always considered inferior to the male child. What do you think? Enter your views in the comments below.

Let me tell you a story,
Which is played in every home!
About an angel who lives among us,
Whether it is Delhi, Paris or Rome!!
You may ask who is she,
Who fills our lives with sunshine!
Close your eyes and just say,
She is the wonderful mother of mine!!
For I can bet that,
When you did close your eyes!
What you felt was,
The joy of the strongest of all ties!!
We will always be a child to her,
Though she has seen us grow fivefold!!
If we follow the tears she shed for us,
It will lead to her heart of gold!!
We work all week long,
And always cherish our Sundays!
But the most ungrateful job is hers,
For she choses not to take any off days!!
The wonderful days of childhood,
We would do anything for a recap!
I will tell you one way you could,
Just sleep again in your mother’s lap!!
When God created the world he knew,
Every time he can’t come to… Read the rest

We blame her for being emotional, And we make fun when she cry! But we forget she is the reason, Most times our face is lit up by a smile!!
We have never given her , The place in society she deserved! Yet she makes sure that everyone, Feels taken care of and loved!!
We often blame her, When she gets mad for small things! It’s only due to her knack for perfection , That many a men have prospered like they have wings!!
We say we don’t like it, When she disrupts our game of soccer! But lets be honest and acknowledge, We love it when she growls in anger!!
We want her to love us, Like we are Salman Khan! While Salman has six packs to show, Our belly resembles the sand dunes of Rajasthan!!
We often wonder, Can’t she ever be quiet? But to hear her voice when away, We can keep everything aside!!
She is like the sudden rain, Will make you wet, but with a tinge of warmth!! We can say how much she loves us, But can never really understand… Read the rest

What it is like to be a woman,
A man is perhaps incapable to understand!
It would take us a lifetime to realise,
That when compared to her, nowhere we stand!!
She has the power,
To mesmerize the world with her smile!
As daughter, wife, mother, and friend,
She makes many lives worthwhile!!
In giving birth she faces pain,
Many times more than ever experienced by man!
Still she forgets it with a smile and gets ready,
For her life as a mother just began!!
Performing the role of a wife and a mother,
She is the pillar of strength in every family!
Competing and thriving in a male centric society,
She is nothing less than a one man army!!
If we recount the impact of women in our lives,
We will realise it is nothing less than massive!
I can go on and on but eventually,
Even I will fall short of an adjective!!
As with most men, too egoistic to give her credit,
Even I was unaware of her strength and capability!
Till an… Read the rest

My views on women have developed mostly in the last 4-5 years and I was thinking of writing a blog post on it for a long time. But I recently read an article in a TOI Sunday Matrimonial Section and I really liked it and thought of sharing it with all… Below is the article
I will also try to write an article on women and their place in Indian Society at the earliest
